A couple of months ago we were looking at trying to get to the Pacific Northwest. I lived near Portland, Oregon for a number of years and loved it there, and getting back out there is something we wanted to do. I checked airfare, but for over $800 roundtrip for two… uh, no. Wait, what’s that? Airfare to Denver for $500!? Round-trip? For two?! Click, BUY! Continue reading “Cheap” airfare to Denver. Let’s go!→
We finally got away for a weekend after a cuh-razy November/ December! Yes, we’ve been locked away at home (kinda) for the most part for awhile, but last weekend we escaped… Continue reading Maine, with NO PETS!→
September 28 – We woke up, quite aware this was our last day in Iceland.
Simple pleasures!!!
As we lay there getting the energy up to get out of bed (it was warm and comfortable!), we talked about the last week and what we were going to do today. One thing for sure, we had to get our coffee started!
September 27 – We woke up early again, but couldn’t see outside much. The windows were caked with frost! I got up and fired up the car and heater, then jumped
back into the sleeping bag. It took awhile for the frost to melt and for us to warm up, but eventually we did. The sun was rising quickly as well, which helped, and we were certainly not in a hurry today anyway. Continue reading Back to Reykjavik→
September 26 – We woke up early, cleaned off the moisture from the windows and clamored outside. It was cool and misty but not really raining this morning, which was quite welcome. The sound of the ocean was clear and drawing us toward the beach. We put our shoes on and started walking down the dirt road, and cresting the small hill we finally saw what had lulled us to sleep the night before. Continue reading Vik to Þingvellir→
September 25 – We woke up REFRESHED! Yes, that was an amazing night of sleep in a bed for sure. We slept in, showered, got our stuff together and packed, and then loaded up the car. We walked over to the lobby and had a great breakfast (passed on the beef tongue though) and embarked on the next day of our adventure! There was A LOT going on today, and our first “scheduled” stop was in Jökulsárlón… Continue reading Hofn to Vik→
September 24 – We woke up and were on the road early. The overnight rain made for a very peaceful sleep, but we were both thinking the car camping was getting a bit… old. I’m 6′-3″ and even with the front seats pushed forward it was very roomy. Our Suburu Forester was nice, and setting up the “bed” wasn’t bad at first, but we’re still sleeping IN A CAR.
September 23 – Today was another big travel day, but not because of time.
THERE’S SO MUCH TO SEE!!!
We had a rough idea of what we were doing this day, but our mantra was (and remains, I think), let’s wing it and see where we end up! Continue reading Mývatn to Seyðisfjörður→
September 22 – Big travel day. We were driving from Stykkishólmur to Mývatn so we knew we had to get moving. We got up and it was still a bit rainy, but not terrible. We packed up and drove off, heading toward the parking lot near the docks. Continue reading Stykkishólmur to Mývatn→
